The Prince- Once upon a Friday eve, there lived a handsome prince, who was the shiniest most loveliest prince in all the land. Now this prince lived alone in his big castle (well apart from his servants, cooks, cleaners, gardeners, shoe polishers, sewing lady, mistress, stable boy and pet dog whose name now escapes me) and he often felt very lonely wandering around his expansive grounds all on his own. So one day the prince decided he would find a lady friend to keep him company and she would be his princess. The prince, excited by his brilliant plan, quickly set about making himself and his home ready for this new lucky lady. He set his many staff many tasks so his castle would look befitting to the most handsome, brilliant prince in all the land. He had his tailor make him a beautiful suit from the finest Indian silk, his shoe maker make him some new shoes made from the finest Spanish leather, his coiffeur styled his hair in the newest of styles and his dentist polished up his teeth so they would be the whitest in all the land. And finally the prince rested so he would look the freshest man in the whole kingdom. The next morning, the prince awoke, had a small breakfast of poached eggs with smoked salmon and his regular strong French coffee, and sent for his horse to be made ready for his departure into the village. The prince felt nervous. He had never picked a lady before. But he felt sure he would make the right decision and would live happily ever after. What happened next was all rather tedious so I am not going to bore you with all the details, but as you can imagine, people were very sceptical of the prince and his seemingly good natured quest. By the end of the day, the prince returned to his castle tired and utterly disheartened by the disappointing results of his quest to find love. He went to bed without his supper and that night he had a very strange and unusual dream. In his dream he was swimming in a big pool of water. The water was warm and he was smiling and laughing as he swam beneath its surface. It felt glorious to be under the water, which was warm and soothing against his skin. He felt as if he was flying through the lightest of air. Beside him, holding his hand swam a woman. She had long golden hair and the most beautiful smile that was like looking at a thousand sunsets. Looking at the beautiful woman made the prince feel the happiest man in the entire world. When he awoke, the prince ran down to the lake at the bottom of his ginormous garden. The water looked cold and dark and not like the water in his dream at all. Confused, the prince sat on the bank, and wondered where this magical pool of water could be. Sadly, the prince spent the rest of his youth searching for this magical pool and the beautiful woman that haunted his dreams. Years later, as he sat now as an old man, exhausted from all his years of disappointment, he sat by the fire in his drawing room and summoned for his mistress (whom he had gotten rather fond of over the years) to come and sit with him to keep him company as he sat contemplating his loneliness. He decided that now his body was no longer fit enough to carry on his search he would give up his quest and live out the rest of his years alone. At this very moment, he looked up and there sitting before him was the very woman he had been dreaming of all these years. But she was known to him, so familiar. It was as if he had known her all along. And with this great happiness, the prince peacefully passed away knowing that he had known love after all. The End
